Reducing water in the pool is a natural process. Evaporation, splashing, as well as the operation of the filtration system leads to a small loss of water. However, if the water decreases very quickly and its level decreases more than 5 cm per week, then there is a leak.
Check the most common leakage points. Inspect the pump, filter, heater, valves, closures, valves. Check the soil around the pool for moisture. If a PVC film is used for the pool lining, inspect it for cuts or other damage. The most common leakage is in the embedded elements (nozzles, skimmers, lanterns, etc.), waterproofing, trimmings and pipe trunks. There are several methods for detecting a leak:
Mark the water level. After typing water, mark the water level with a marker, plaster or something else. After 2 hours, see how much the water level has changed. The water in the pool should not decrease more than half a centimeter a day. If the water decreases more than this rate, then there is a leak.
Test with a bucket: put a bucket filled with water on a step in the pool. For extra gravity and bucket stability, put bricks or ordinary stones in it. Note on the bucket the water level of the pool. After 24 hours, check how much the water level has changed. If the water level falls below the mark, you should look for a leak. For the accuracy of the experiment, carry out the test with the pump turned on and then off.
Determination of the place of leakage. After confirming the presence of a water leak, you should find a leak. Inspect the surface of the pool for cracks, scratches and chips. Turn off the filtration system. We must wait until the water level stops decreasing. This will be the horizon in which the place of the leak is located. If the water remains at the skimmer level, it is likely that the leak is due to a malfunction in the skimmer or filtration system (including pipes). If the water remains at the level of the light bulbs, the leakage occurs in the area of the lighting objects.
Air bubbles that appear in the water entering the pool after filtration, during the operation of the pump, mean a leak in the suction side of the filtration system. If the water flow is increased while the pump is running, there is a problem in the water return system. Also check that the pump filter is tightly attached. If you have a pool with vinyl film, then do not experiment with the rapid decline of water. It is better to call a specialist right away.
Also, the leakage spot can be detected with a small amount of paint or acid-base balance indicator. Add the paint into the water when the pump is off and the water is calm. Pay attention, whether the paint added by you in water is absorbed somewhere.
Elimination of leakage. If the leak occurs in the area where the skimmer is attached to the cement base of the pool, it can easily be eliminated with a special putty for swimming pools. Leaks in the lighting area are often associated with a wire tube. In case of its disconnection from the main system, apply epoxy resin mixed with putty or silicone on both parts, and glue them.
If there is a leak in a PVC insulating film, then repair kit can be dispensed with a repair kit from the set attached to the film.
